LTT Lithuania February 20th - 24th, 2023

We all were very tired from our trip to Lithuania, so we went to bed at our host's houses and had a good night's sleep.

MONDAY Feb 20th

Firstly on Monday we went to the school, got to know the other students and played Kahoot related to the upcoming presentations.

Klaipédos Licéjus

our Lithuanian host: Lijana, Inga and Lukas

We were divided into groups and we went to classes with our own group to study, for example. English, visual arts, history and music.

After the lessons we all presented our presentations about our body of water to the fellow Erasmus+ students and teachers.

After that, we ate lunch at the school cafeteria and took the bus to the windy and rainy shores of the Baltic Sea. On the beach, we collected, for example, sand, stones, water, sticks and mussels, because we had to make our own Baltic Sea inside a glass bowl.

Back at the school we worked in the same groups as in the earlier lessons and made our own Baltic Seas.

After those activities we did the same Kahoot as we did earlier in the hope that the results would be better. Then we just took a group photo of us all and headed to the hosts' homes. In the afternoon we went bowling with almost all of the Erasmus students and talked about our first day in Lithuania.

TUESDAY Feb 21st

We went to the Klaipeda Licejus lab at school and we listened to some presentations about experiments, for example how mold forms in strawberries in different conditions. After the presentation, we did our own experiment about the water of our seas and rivers. We tested how many bacteria are in our river Pielisjoki. Then we had lunch at the school canteen.

In the afternoon we visited a passsenger-cargo ship Luna. It travels between Klaipeda and Karlshamn in Sweden. We were told about its history and they answered our questions about the ship and transporting people with it. We visited the bridge and met the captain.

Wednesday Feb 22nd

We arrived at the school at 9 am and we started with ice breaking activities. We were divided into two groups in which we had to perform different tasks. The first task was to play mini golf and every time we hit the target, we got a point. There were three different golf courses. At the same time, the other group was performing a task in which they had to carry the ball by extending it to the other over the bench all the way to the basket. We then put on our clothes and started walking towards Klaipeda University Marine Research Institute.

When we arrived at the University, we studied various samples in the laboratory and listened to a long presentation of the University's activities and the Baltic Sea. After that, everyone was already very hungry and we ate lunch at a restaurant. The food consisted of deep-fried chicken, salad and french fries.

After this, the bus took us to the Castle Museum. There we were divided into two groups and got a museum tour. The museum was made of the remains of an old castle at the cast of Lithuania and the museum displayed the original structures of the castle. The museum was nicely built and we found it one of the most interesting places of the week. After the museum, all of us continued our journey with our own hosts for an evening of hanging out.

 THURSDAY Feb 23rd

In the morning we took a bus to one of Unesco's World Heritage sites, the Curonian spit. It belongs to Russia and Lithuania and separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. While we crossed the Lagoon with a ferry we had a guide who told us things about the Lagoon’s fishing culture and history. During the bus ride to our first stop she told us stories and general information about the Curonian spit. We visited a bunch of places where we walked around and spent time outdoors. It was a bit windy and cold but the atmosphere was warm and friendly.  All of us had a great time and we saw some beautiful scenery everywhere we went.

 FRIDAY Feb 24th

On Friday morning we arrived with our hosts at the Old Ferry crossing, from where a small ferry took us across the Baltic Sea/Curonian Lagoon to the opposite shore. There we walked a short walk to the Dolphinarium and Maritime museum. We were mixed into three groups and we went to workshops where we were educated about the Baltic Sea in 2050 and how much we have many kinds of trash there. We also made our own ads about climate change.

In other workshops we explored the exhibition of the Lithuanian maritime museum about Klaipeda’s history. After the workshops we all went back to the dolphinarium and had a meal. The last thing on our program was watching the dolphin show before heading back to Klaipeda.

In the early evening we had a farewell party in a restaurant which had been rented just for us by the host families. There we had our last meal together and after that we listened to music and danced the whole night till it was the time to say goodbye to each other.

Some pictures of Klaipeda.

ll in all we had a very interesting and unforgettable week that we are all grateful for.
