LTT Greece November 14th - 18th, 2022

SUNDAY Nov 13th

On Saturday Anniina, Kerttu, Alina, me and our teachers went to Joensuu train station at about 3pm and took the train to Helsinki. Nothing really happened except our train hit a tree on the rail and we had to change trains in Parikkala. When we were in Helsinki we went to the hotel and ate. Then we went to sleep.

On Sunday morning we went to the airport and waited for our flight. We landed in Frankfurt and ate some pizza at the airport. Then we took the flight to Athens. In Athens, it was dark already and it looked so beautiful from the airplane. We got to the metro station from  airport and waited for our hosts to come. When our hosts came, we went to their houses. We all were with our host families by 2 o’clock in the morning. We also gave a little gifts from Finland to our hosts.

MONDAY Nov 14th

In the morning we went to the school in Piraeus. At the school we did some ice breaking activities where we had to tell two truths and a lie about ourselves and others had to guess which of them was the lie. We presented our presentations about our own country's air pollution and played a kahoot about Greece.

After that we left the school and walked to a small port called Mikrolimano and had lunch there.

After lunch we went for a walk with the Hungarian students and some of the Greek students. After the walk we went to rest at our host’s place for a while and then we went to hang out with some other students.

TUESDAY Nov 15th

In the morning we went to the school to meet all the other students. We took a bus from the  school to the industrial area, Aspropyrgos. There we measured air pollution levels and got some information about how the measuring machines work from an expert.

Next we took a bus to the mountains, and walked an ancient Greek path, an ancient aqueduct at Giannoula. It was a few kilometres. The weather was nice, the sun was shining all day. We were told a lot of information about the path during the hike and we learnt many new things.

After walking the path, we went to a Greek tavern. We ate some steak (chicken, beef or minced meat) with fries, greek salad and tzatziki.

The lunch was the last thing in the schedule. We went to Alina's and Kerttu's host house to rest bit. After a while we met the other students to walk around Piraeus. The city looked pretty at night, and the weather was warm. In the evening we ate at out hosts' house some traditional Greek food. This day was very tiring but super nice!

WEDNESDAY Nov 16th

In the morning at about 9 o’clock our host took us close to Acropolis Hill. When all the Erasmus students and teachers were there, we started walking to the top of Acropolis Hill. When we got there, we were greeted by an amazing view of Athens. There were so many beautiful buildings surrounded by mountains. Also, Parthenon was so old and a great temple.

Then we went to the new Acropolis museum. There we saw historical sculptures and art. I saw a few interesting cravings and they were so amazing and detailed.

We went to eat in Thisio and the food was great. I loved boiled eggplants. They were delicious.

When we were ready, we left for the Museum of Illusions in Athens. That was trippy. I have never been so confused before. It was also pretty fun to be there.

We did a little bit of shopping and then we took the metro to Piraeus. And went to our host families houses.

THURSDAY Nov 17th

Today, about 10 o'clock we went by tram to the Faliro Station and we met half of the group there, then we went to visit the Niarchos Cultural Foundation. There was the national library of Greece too, it was cool! And we went all the way to the top of the building, and to the rooftop and walked in the park next to Niarchors Cultural Foundation. In the park there were different kind of things to do. For example, there was two rocks apart from each others and when you talked to the other, your voice could be heard on the other rock. So you could kind of communicate by it.

After being in the park, we went to visit the battleship that was used in 20th century. We got to go and take a look inside the ship and we got a guide to tell us a little bit of the history of all that. It was great to see all that and it was all so authentic.

After that we walked to Marina Flisvos to have lunch. There you could eat burgers, salads and all that kind of stuff. It was good! All the day it was sunny and good weather.

After lunch we didn't have any plans, so we went to the supermarket with our host to buy something to take to home to our family and friends. After all that we got to our home and ordered some food and just chilled and started a little bit of packing our things.

FRIDAY Nov 18th

On Friday we went to the school at about 9 o'clock. And after a while, we started to do some kind of projects in small groups. We had to draw and write what future would look like, in utopia and dystopia. After that we had some quizzes about air pollution and things that we had learned during the week.

At around one o'clock we left by bus to the farewell lunch, which was in a small tavern, owned by Alina and Kerttu's host parents. The food was really good but it was also pretty sad saying goodbye to all the people.

After that our host took us to the metro station and we met Anniina and Rebekka's host there. We went with her to Athens. There we went to small tourist shops. It was nice to see around Athens a little bit, too. At some point we also ate ice creams in a small and nice place. After that we were in Athens a little while and then we went by metro to Piraeus. We didn't do much after that, we just packed the rest of our stuff and went to sleep.

SATURDAY Nov 19th

On Saturday we had to wake up really early because our flight from Athens to Frankfurt left at 8.25 and we had to be early at the airport. We went to the airport by bus and before that we said goodbye to our hosts. After the flight we had something to eat at the Frankfurt airport and then we just waited for our flight to Helsinki. We arrived in Helsinki at 16.55 and then we went to Tikkurila and from Tikkurila we left with a train for Joensuu. When we were on the train to Joensuu we were so tired after the long day travelling and a whole week in a foreign country that we were laughing at everything so the train ride was pretty fun. We arrived in Joensuu at 23.15.
